One of the most significant barriers for our guests to transform their lives is access to public transportation. Our guests need transportation to attend legal, medical, or employment-related appointments. There are also times when going to a shelter, or getting to MK for a warm meal is easier said than done.

Thankfully, this is where you come in. Whether visiting the nation’s capital or moving out of the area, you can have an enormous impact on our guests’ ability to access critical care throughout the city.

In 2017, we received over 2,600 metro cards for our guests with an estimated $6,350 in value. Senior Case Manager, Margaret (Meg) Dominguez spoke to The Montgomery Sentinel about the powerful impact metro card donations have at MK.

She told them, “Metro is pretty expensive already, and walking around the city with all your stuff is a lot of wear and tear on the body and not an incentive to actually go somewhere where we’re trying to motivate someone to go if they have a little hesitation.”

By donating your unneeded SmarTrip cards, you are helping DC get even closer to ending veteran and long-term homelessness.

Please send your in-kind metro card donation to the address below. We ask that you put a post-it note on the card indicating the card balance.
