Guest Spotlight: With Housing First, Kathy Can Give Back

Permanent Supportive Housing Case Manager Solomon Abawi (right) helped Kathy Sprouse (left) move into her new home on New Years’ Day in 2015. Kathy was one of our first housing program clients, and she is filled with gratitude. “Things have really changed for me. I’m blessed, and housing made all the difference.”

Kathy spends her time in the neighborhood giving back by facilitating groups, making friends playing bingo, and finding ways to help at church. Recently, Kathy also became a Certified Recovery Coach, adding to the list of credentials she has achieved with the stability of a home and is in the process of job interviews. “I’ve been given so much. My mom and dad are my heart and they never gave up on me. I call my mom every day to give her updates. And Solomon has been a godsend. He is so cool and sweet. I can tell him anything. We get along so well because he really listens.”

When asked what makes Miriam’s Kitchen different, Kathy replied: “You all are different because you never miss an opportunity to make someone feel speciallike remembering my birthday or making sure I get to the community picnic. When I need help, you’re there for me. I love Miriam’s Kitchen.”
