Miriam’s Kitchen Praises Mayor Gray for Addressing D.C.’s Need for Affordable Housing
Washington, D.C., November 20, 2013 – Miriam’s Kitchen is encouraged by Mayor Gray’s announcement to invest in affordable housing in Washington, D.C. On behalf of our guests, we specifically thank the Mayor for ensuring that 46 percent of the housing units to be created will be permanent supportive housing units. These units will be a key resource to addressing chronic homelessness in D.C.
For this investment to be most effective, we encourage the Mayor to use the “Housing First” model of Permanent Supportive Housing – the national best practice for addressing chronic homelessness – and to target these units to serve the individuals who have been homeless the longest and are living with the greatest level of disability.
